Technology has surely moved on. My first headlamp was a caver’s carbide lamp that I used for years and even though I owned several miners lamps the carbide lamp was light and with a tin of spare carbide would last for ages. Not that I’ve tired it, it also makes a lovely bomb for extracting trout without all that pissing about with flys>ggg
After the carbide came the cavers Petzel head lamp, which is what I’m using now, because I’ve still got a couple left form my caving days. However the LED head lamps are the in thing and when I eventually bust or loose my Petzel head lamp it’s an LED lamp for me even though they are a wee bit expensive, as Graham says quality comes at a premium.
