After looking through a couple of magazines of the S.A.A. (Specialist Anglers Alliance) I notice there are a few names that are familiar with us on this site.
I also had a look at their website, which I found interesting.
A 10.13oz chub caught from the River Wye in 1981. Interestingly I also noticed the pike record from Loch Lohmond in 1945 at 47lb.
I was wondering why there is not a British canal caught recorded pike, as I know the record came off the Bridgewater canal about 4 years ago, but was beaten shortly afterwards. No reflection on the S.A.A. but I was wondering why is there a difference between canal and still water records, (presumably).
I will be joining the S.A.A. in the New Year, partly because I think it is about time I supported an organisation of this sort. And what better than something I am a little familiar with some of its officers.

haha, Baz, a canal is classified as a still water (some more stiller than others)

I thought there was some kind of a distinction made between the two Monk.
Anyhow, I will be with you in the next couple of weeks. I am interested in the conservation side of things. So I will probably mail or phone you just after Christmas.
I got your e-mail as well John thanks.

Cheers Baz, SAA certainly needs more support, for my own part I`ve been inactive for a number of years, I really must get back and help a bit, we are though very fortunate in the people we have fighting on our behalf, you will certainly be in excellent company Baz

In the days of the River Board Authorities, pre-NRA, you didnt need a permit for still waters (canals also came into this category), the legislation/regulations relating to the Act changed with NRA (from memory)still waters then came into the equation, I think at the time it was applicable to all waters greater than 1 hectre?, now I believe its all waters

I have just been having a look at the S.A.A. code of conduct.
The thing that struck me straight away, is that these rules are down to common sense, and curtesy to fellow anglers and people in general.
So why then is it so hard for certain people understand or to comply to them? As Chris Tarrant says, it is a good code, all we have to do now is to get people to follow it.

If this code of conduct was put to people as a questionare, I am certain their would be an almost 100% pass rate, so why are people not putting it into practice?

If a fishing exam was to be brought out as discussed on another thread elsewhere, then I would deffinately put this code of conduct forward as a necessity.

The SAA Code of Conduct comes from the National Angling Alliance endorsed by the EA.

I have asked Graham if he will look into putting it on this site as a constant reference for members.

Let's hope he can.

the SAA Code of Conduct was originally a inituative of the SACG, it was delevoped over many years thanks to the hard work of Chris Burt and Tim Marks

I will speak to my club secretary on Friday, and see if we can't get copies in the H.Q. for members to take out.
I think we are fast approaching a time where all anglers need to think about matters concerning our own welfare. I am sure we have had them in the past, and a restock will not do any harm.
