I'm involved ina project researching to see if boats logging depth and GPS data can share that data via the web to create more detailed charts, and we're looking to get fishermen to participate. See TeamSurv - Home for more information.
You need a GPS and a depth sounder on your boat, with NMEA0183 data output. We supply a loggerr that logs data whilst you are at sea, and then you upload it to the web site where it is merged with the rest of the data, and displayed over Google Maps.
If you run a PC on your boat, you can use the software logger. Otherwise, we can supply a hardware logger, which stored data on a standard USB memory stick. If you are in one of the trials areas (Poole to Chichester and Thames Estuary to the Wash) then you can use the software logger or the hardware logger on free loan. In other areas we welcome participants, but because of the limited number of loggers we ask you to use the software logger, or to purchase a hardware logger at a subsidised price.
