This may sound like a silly question but can someone clarify what is meant by a left handed multiplier?
I want it mounted on the top of the rod and wind with my left hand-is this a left handed or a right handed upside down ?
Please put me out of my confusion.

left handed is reeled in with left hand, and right hand is reeled in with right hand. turning the reel upside down wont work.

And now I will confuse you. In the USA, casting with the right hand and reeling with the left hand is called right handed, so a reel with a left hand wind is also called right handed.

However, traditionally, multiplying or baitcasting reels as they are called in the USA, all had right hand winds, that meant you cranked the reel with your right hand.

Whereas spinning reels (fixed spool) were all traditionally left hand wind.

Today of course most reels can be used with left or right hand winds.

Thanks for you replies guys-i think ive got it now-
i was thinking that having the reel on the top of the rod was really 'upside down !' so to have the handle on the left needed to be right handed when the reel was in the normal position under the rod-now i realise the normal position is on top of the rod it all makes sense.
Cheers
