I caught my first sturgeon the other day, 11lb 8oz. :D Put up a great fight. Caught it from a lake in Ashford, there's a photo on the website in my sig if anyone's interested.

Are freshwater sturgeons predators? I can't find any info on the website. I don't think they are because their mouths are on the bottom, so I was guessing they are bottom feeders, but they look like a predator type fish. ;)

I think they are, it might be that there prey is very small though .
Did you know barbel can be caught on minnows so technically a predator.
They catch those massive ones in Canada on rotten salmon and fish eggs.

I only have experience of Canadian and USA and Pacific White Sturgeon. They will eat live bait but most (all?) west coast river fisheries ban the use of live baits for them.
They love salmon eggs. When the carcass of a dead salmon floats downstream, the sturgeon will grab it, suck the remaining eggs out and spit out the rest of the carcass. They only want the eggs.
