It sounds that this was a good meeting with lots of positive points.

However Keith Arthur, writing in this week's Angling Times, claims he has heard it all before, giving the impression that FACT will fizzle out in the same way that The NAC and the JAGB did before.

Over pessimistic or what?

I have every faith he is wrong.

I also believe that in Ben Bradshaw we have the best chance ever of 'getting it together'
I heard him on national radio a few weeks ago fielding questions from sea angling/fishing interested parties and was most impressed.

Ron I'm not impressed with KA. The words engage brain before opening mouth comes to mind.
I read the piece and it was clear to me that he?d not really understood the press release.
But eh! He has to write something for the rag he writes for!

I think FACT will help to promote angling and put forward our point of view. It's better than the current system, with different organisations all claiming to represent us.

I just hope people will give it time otherwise it will be FACT before it gets off the ground.

Had a look at said site; bloody sure I 'aint going to pay neer on 20 quid to read what he has to say, and I stopped buying the weeklies a long time ago.

Does anyone really put much credence on what he thinks/says anyway?

Ron, there is no got to about it. I didn't bother mentioning this thread to him, he is blissfully unaware of its contents.

I have known Keith for many years and often fished with him. He is the same as anyone else in any medium is entitled to his opinions. In this case I happen to agree with. We often hear of things changing, then some bright spark comes up with all of the reasons why it won't happen.

I think along with the likes of Gareth Parnell and others that the NFA should get it's own house in order and do some real good, then there may not be the need for other organisations to join in.

At present the organisation of Fish o Mania is a case in point. The whole ticketing system has gone to cock, no more tickets are available, yet we found one for sale on e-bay for ?30.00 final price I saw for it was ?36.00. That is more than double the face value of the ticket.

Keith has been taking steps to stop this charade from happening again next year.

Am I missing something? I clip what Ergo typed -
www.totalfishing-club.com
plugged it in as a URL and it fails to find anything.

However, if it charges ?20 to read it, as Wearyone says, then they can stuff it.

As you seem to be KA mouthpiece on here, as he wont come on and take on his critics.
You state ?I think along with the likes of Gareth Parnell and others that the NFA should get it's own house in order and do some real good, then there may not be the need for other organisations to join in.? If you mean by this the NFA doesn?t need anybody else and should represent all anglers, it couldn?t. It is a coarse fishing body. I think I?m right in saying it?s in its constitution that it is such, therefore it has no remit to represent game fishing or sea angling.

I also suspect those bodies would be mighty miffed if it tried to.

It could be argued, and has on here many times, that it doesn?t represent specialist angling. It gave up that right in the 1960s when such angler voted with there feet and set up there own body NASG.
Enter Ron or the Monk with the history of why!

The NFA, unlike KA, recognise the best it can hope for is a partnership with the bodies in existence, and that partnership is FACT, if it want to move angling forward.
And it does!
Your criticism of the NFA was correct under the last administration, but under the new Admin. I don?t think it?s the case. They have moved a long way in short time as understand it, and have plans to go a long way further, but that won?t happen overnight. in short it is putting its hose in order. Some may not like that order, but that's life!

As for Fish o Mania and tickets, I can?t comment, as I have no interest or desire to fish such event.

Phil, I am neither his mouth piece or have any further interest in this topic. I offered you a solutiion.

It takes two to debate or argue. I think you will have to find someone else to bait or play with.

I must admit I haven?t read KA?s comments either But I think that FACT should get him on-side pretty quick because there is no doubt he talks to a massive angling audience through Magazines, Telly and Radio. If you are trying to launch a new organisation as FACT are doing these type of people?s support is essential ? I remember posting somewhere on here that FACT do not have a full-time PR person

Shows dunnit!

I am in a club that is affiliated to the NFA (ACA as well) I have just rung the Sec who attended the NFA Conference last year and as far as he has knows he voted for Terry Fell to be the President and lead us ?over the top? to date he has not received anything from the NFA about FACT

Are their hearts really in it?

Oh dear I've upset someone else!
Pete what's the average length of time to get someone in post?

6-8 weeks is the answer if you don?t know! And how long has FACT been in existence? Less than a month!

Don?t you think your being just a little over critical and having a go for having a goes sake?

I happen to think you're right Phil. We're not going know if works or not for at least another year so trying to pass judgement now is totally irrelevant. Time will tell if KA is right or not.
