As those who fish with me will tell you I blank well actually I blank a lot. To tell the truth I'm running out of excuses, so any help would be much appreciated.
What is the best excuse?
Doesn't matter how stupid as long as I can use it in mixed company!

If its been a string of blanks try: All the fish have been ottered!

If looking for an excuse to cover just the one day's blank:
Starting with Tarker (again). Otter, crayfish, Pike, zander and/or cormorant in your peg.
Water to low and clear, (flipside) water to high and coloured.
You forgot to pack the bait that would have worked.
You had to pack up just as they were going to feed.
Somebody had already fished the best swims earlier in the day.
To much weed, making it impossible to present a bait properly.
Dog walkers skylining you and/or dog swimming in the water.
Herd of cattle in the field that wouldn't leave you alone, of course this one has many alternative culprit animals; sheep, horses, goats.... etc
Joker fishing above or to the side of you kept over-casting your swim.

As you can tell, I've plenty of experience in this field of the sport.
Of course there is the, I'm having an off day, if it was easy there'd be no rewards in the capture
OR I'm cr@p and fish for ego boosting comments.:D

Water too wet...

I sometimes wonder about what's going on with the fish though. Last winter after about the first week of Feb I struggled to get a bite on several stretches of the Stour. Granted it was cold but this was really grim even when it got milder. When several FM anglers joined me at the end of the season it was still bad and we struggled. You'd swear there were no fish in a 3 mile stretch. Went back this summer several times. No problem finding dace, chub, roach, perch etc. Where were they last winter? No excuses but it appeared devoid back then. Last time I fished it I had around 10lbs of nice roach and perch. Still, if it was easy...

Torquay .....with my reputation??
If you are old enough you could say I forgot to go
or if looking for originality ..I failed to catch because my mind was on the plight of the unemployed people on benefit and hand outs who are less fortunate than me and can only afford bread as bait because they fish 7 days a week .

Mark, the best, and only excuse that you will need, and will work on everyone is:

"I was only fishing for "BIG 'UNS!" :D

That is actually my excuse and the one I use on a regular basis. If you repeat it constantly like a mantra then you start to believe it.

Some of these are bang on the money.
Really liked the "water too wet" and "only fishing for big uns"
But first prize so far has to be Mr Gibsons "That's the last time I'll follow advice given by one of the FM experts"
Because as we all know on FM expert stands for..... EX - has been, Spert - drip under pressure.
Keep em coming as I fear these will only last me for a week or two!
