Has anyone had any experience with the Badger XXT Bite alarms or the Pro Performance PBA2's which are both under ?20. I am looking for a couple of cheap but resonable bite alarms for occasional use. If anyone could offer an opinion I would be grateful

Cheers

Got to be Fox Microns. The cheapest version for under ?20. OK you lose a few features but gain reliability. If you can stretch to ?25 Bitech Micro's have a whole host of features to play with and they are good little alarms. I have seen the odd rod being towed into the lake through alarms not quite doing as they ought so beware !

For ?22 each I recently purchased 2x Fox micron 'M' alarms that are proving excellent. Being on a pretty tight budget with my fishing I have tried one or two cheper alarms and have found that whilst they are more than adequate for good fishing conditions, I encountered problems when fishing in high winds and heavy rain. I Have a mate who has a couple of Badger XXT's and has had no problems with them, but personally with Fox being the top Bite Alarm specialists I would have a look at the Micron M's.

Hope it helps

I have also recently purchased the fox micron m's
and found them to be excellent I even dropped one in a lake(clumsy i know)and it was submerged for about 5mins and it still works. I haven't tried any other budget models though.

Pull your car up as close as possible to your swim. Get a lead from your hooter and wire it so that the closing of a simple pair of contacs will start it hooting. Attatch the line between butt ring and reel. When you get a bite the noise will wake the dead.

I have two Badger XXTs very good value, they have rubber grips, well placed LEDS and so far the Duracells in mine have lasted for 6 good days fishing.

Shakespeare Zeniths are a big fave with tight wad pikers. Cheap 'n cheerful, tone, volume and sensitivity control and they have high ears which stop the rods bowing off 'em in a gale.
