You mean the line lay is crap Jeff? I usually get someone to help me with it when winding on a new spool. Thread the line through a couple of rings of the rod with the reel in place and get someone to hold the spool with a pencil through it then wind it on under gentle pressure with the spool at an angle of just under 90 degrees. It works for me but no doubt youll get some good advice from others. Bad line lay can be down to a bad reel as well so keep that in mind. Ive tried the putting the spool in a bucket of water and I have a device made for winding line on which can be attached to the rod but I always go back to the above method because its easiest for me and it works.
