I currently hair rig my barbel barrels from top to bottom (vertically) however was wondering if it would be more benefical to hair rig them from side to side (horizontally) Answers on a postcard!

I hook the Quest Barbel Chops from side to side:

It allows me to use the same hair length as a 10mm boilie

I usually chop them in half as I think they are a bit big

It uses less line so I save money (!)

Apart from that it makes not a jot of difference!

I was looking at the Barbel Barrels on the Quest Baits website and was thinking of ordering some.

The Chubby Chops also sound quite good, has anyone tried them?

Sliding hair get around having to make up different hair length rigs.
But to do it you have to be able to whip hooks by hand ;)
Just finished making up half a dozen as my rigs tube was getting low.

Slightly off topic, but on my odd trips to the local commercial I used to rig one pellet top to bottom and the second side to side, creating a "T". I convinced myself I was catching more but probably couldn't prove it!

Sliding hairs and/or lasoo hairs worked a treat as well, but as you say, you need the apptitude to tie your own hooks/rigs!

I've used both the Barbel Chops (obviously!) and the Chubby Chops and they both work well for chub. I normally band them when chub fishing, but to be honest I normally use bread flake unless the river is up!

I'm a Lancastrian by the way, but I've lived in Yorkshire for a good while so maybe it's rubbed off!!
