A friend of mine called round last night and we chatted about the old gear he has,he has loads!! i asked him to write down some of his better rods so that i could ask you lot who are into this type of thing how valuble they are, here are just three.
1. Allcocks super wizard, as new, unused.
2. Sharpes scottie carp, again unused.
3. Allcocks "feathero" prototype, sighned by John Finch, and yes unused!
How collectable and valuble are they?

Paul, Chris Sandford's your man - I'm sure he's got a shop in Stow-on-the-Wold which isn't a million miles from you.

There are also several websites.

Waterlog has ads from people who specialise in this sort of stuff.

The Allcocks super wizard is worth a few bob. But....it's only worth it to whoever is willing to pay. Personally I would love an old cane rod to play with, but they are all just too damn expensive. Even new ones are stupid prices. I am considering making my own. Does anybody have info' on tapers?

Mr Humphries, I had a look at your website but it doesn't tell me an awful lot, it tells me you make rods but what it doesn't tell me is the prices, and like many, when I look for something on the web I like to know what I'm buying and how much it is going to cost. I realise that these rods are made to order but surely you have a price per foot of each of the the materials or aprice rangeat the very least?

Graham,

That one is a little bit special having the longer handle and being the Oval gold Label, and it is in original condition and not refurbished.

Typically, a decent (straight) Wizard with the gold oval label will sell around 350 to 400 and is a joy to use.

Alternatively, but only if you have a spare thousand notes then order a Barder Merlin and wait about a year for it to be made.
