Hi i've been fishing for a few years now but i've always used the foat fishing method as it is the only way im used to. I usually fish the same river which is ideal for float fishing. The heaviest fish ive caught is only about 3 and a half pound chub. Yesterday i went to my third still water (darenth complex). I set up my usual way hoping to catch a carp but all I caught were 1 pound roaches does anyone no how to catch reasonable size carp on float? thanks

Matt,
not trying to be unhelpful but how you catch 1lb roach? Just as important.

Try the lift method over a large bed of ground bait with a whole lob on the hook.
find this is pukka in the margins on the shady side of the lake for big tench.
Before you fish rake the swim and ball in all your ground bait.
this will get the tench's attention also tench like some sort of mud or silt to root around in.

if its carp your after i would bait up a few marginal spots with pellets boilies etc and periodically check them when you see signs of activity gently lower a float with a nice juicy lob.

Hey Matt.

I would rather catch those 1 lb roach than any carp that swims.
