Me and my mate were walking around our local pond the other day, checking out potential swims for the new season, as you do!
We were approached by one of the baliffs who patrols the pond and got chatting. We were talking about the pond in general and different swims and the best pegs and the like. Anyway, talk came onto the subject of some of the features of the lake and the fact that one of the big massess of weeds had drifted to the other side of the pond and needed moving. He said that a few members of his club were coming up on the sunday (22nd) and were doing some maintenance work. Being nice chaps, we voluteered to help!
We both spent today with these members and the local council 'refurbishing' the pond and moving the island back, building up damaged pegs and generally cleaning up.
What did we ask for in return? Nothing.
What did we get?
Lunch and drinks all day, fun in the dingy getting soaked! About ?40 worth of lost tackle including floats, weights, lures, crankbaitsand spinners and a free days fishing!! How good is that! and so rewarding!
