There was an enquiry some time ago about how to get repairs done to a Shimano reel. Well, here's the answer to all your Shimano service needs.

Interesting question is who makes the best reels?

I've been using Shimano fixed spools and multipliers for over 20 years now and they have NEVER given me any trouble. Yet I have had trouble from Mitchell, ABU and Daiwa.

I once had a Mitchell 410s gears strip whilst I was playing a 20 lb catfish! Aimilar thing happened with a Cardinal 54 that I used to use for light spinning for estuary species. A springer took out 200 yards and the clutch burned out.

I had the exploding Mitchell spool. Gave my mate a hernia laughing.

I have never had a Shimano reel let me down in the 15 or so years I have been using them. That's why I buy Shimano.

Blimey ! Been searching across the country for another Stradic Specialist to replace my broken one. Called Shimano ages ago and they said they couldn't help. Tried the Felindre address and they said they might have a couple and gave me a name !

Excellent !!!

Better than excellent. If you have any Shimano issues you'd be a fool not to call these people they know their stuff and are very reasonable !

Not only reasonable I have recieved my order at 10am ! After months of trying to get a replacement Stradic Specialist butt I get it less than 24 hours of ordering. That is rather remarkable.

I have 5 Shimano rods and not had a problem with any of them yet, except when I snapped off a tip through my own stupid fault. Even then they supplied me a new one FOC. Therefore an alternative view to you Stuart, but we can only judge by our own experiences.

Hi Dave. I know what you mean, but I had three different rods quiver (same as yours) where I have had 5 (yes 5) tips split during playing a fish, my 13ft waggler where the reel seating disintegrated and a 2lb tc carpy thing where the male socket section split in two. So, my experiences tainted my views a bit......hows it going anyway? I managed a 5lb 2oz chub from the river lea last week, which I was dead chuffed with.

Shimano Rule OK. with the exception of the occasional strokes of brilliance from other manufacturers like the Daiwa 7HT, ABU C3s or the Mitchell 300s. Shimano make the best reels in the world bar none. I have everything from 2-speed Beastmasters through the TLD range down to a pair of Scorpions purchased recently direct from Japan. The baitrunners are legendary and the early 3500's are still much sought after two generations of reels on.
I recently sold a pair of TLD5s to a guy in California who almost tore my hand of to get them. He paid more than I paid for them ten years ago.
Service at their Service Centre has always been first class. I once sent a Speedmaster back in very small pieces after one of my legendary 'services'. There were so many bits I sent it in a cut down shoe box. Whilst it was technically still under guarantee, I had clearly abused it in the real sense of the word. In those days Shimano had a guy called Jonathan who could and would sort out anything and the reel was back in one piece, properly services and back in my hands within three days with no charge. I always get the feeling with Shimano that they have a real sense of 'care' about their products.

I can only echo Gerrys thoughts.
I have everything from TLD25's down to a little match reel (and about 30 others in between) and they all go back to Shimano for servicing.
The service is always prompt and cheap and any problems are usually sorted by a phone call within days of me sending the reels off.

Nothing but praise.

Never known anything like it! Friday afternoon I packed up my 3 baitrunners and sent them off for a good service and sort out. I called Felindre who advised it may take a few days as one of the engineers was off on his hols. So I thought to myself, well, these guys pride themselves on a quick turn around and with one engineer down, I mentally gave them 7 working days. To my suprise, I got a call today (Monday) saying all sorted and they will go in the post tonight. Now that is service!

I,too, own several Shimano reels and I am, as an engineer, in no doubt that the engineering and build quality is second to none - they are the bulls onions.

Had a few problems with the rods, though nothing major (one lined eye chipped and one keeper ring broken off) but can't really fault them.
