Dawn or Dusk
It has been a long time since I went fishing in the early morning. Early for me was 5.a.m (or is that p.m)
Anyhow the mist was rolling over the water with the odd coot calling to her chicks, as I set my rod up, a marvellous time of day. I couldn?t get the spot I wanted, so I had to make do with what was available. The first rod was cast to the side of an island where I had caught bream from in the past, and I wanted to know if they were still there.
The second rod was cast further out to a sandbar, where I knew there was a good chance of a tench. Both rods produced the species I was after, the first to go off was the bream rod, with barely more than a skimmer of 1.5 lb. Never mind, they were still there and that is all I wanted to know. I had just put the skimmer back when the other rod went off, and this was fighting a lot better, I knew it was a good tench. Just over 5lb, which isn?t bad considering that the best are around 7-8 lb.
The sun was up and hot at 6.am and that put a stop to the mornings sport. Other anglers who were on the lake were mostly bivvied up and fast asleep, what a waste, they had missed the best part of the day. I think I will make a few night sessions, so that I can get the really early mornings in. It really is the best part of the day. Even better than evening sessions, but what do you prefer?
Really early morning, or evening.
