For information to any Warrington Anglers members:
Due to the recent spate of large carp deaths on the Weaver system, which appears to now have spread to the Trent & Mersey Canal, the following Warrington AA waters are closed to fishing with immediate effect:
- Sandiway Lakes
- Grey Mist Mere
- Rixton Clay Pits
- Moore Quarry
- Cicely Mill Pool
This decision was taken by the management committee yesterday as a precautionary principle, until more information is forthcoming from CEFAS, who are analysing samples at this time.
This is a fish welfare issue, and the action has been taken to protect the valuable stocks of fish in the above waters, where anglers could be a vector for spreading the problem to stillwater.
In the meantime we would ask members to thoroughly dry all nets before
visiting any open fishery.
I am afraid that due to work commitments, I am unavailable to unlikely to be able to respond to any questions on this forum for the next few days. I will however post any updates on here as soon as I am notified.
