Of course you can.

Many people use boilie mixes as paste and these often include 15ml to 30ml of oil in a 6 egg mix.

To be honest, there's no need to thicken the oil. Too thick an oil may well restrict flavour leakage.

I think the type of oil and it's saturation point (the point at which it solidifies) is more important.
I would try using egg instead of water though. It will bind much better.

Try and get the paste so it's just tacky.

Another tip would be - if you're going to freeze your paste, put it in an air tight back, as usual, but flatten it into a mini pancake shape. It will thaw out a little quicker when you need to use it.

I'm certanly not a bait guru but there are a few on here who might be able to help you further.

When you use oil in a paste I find it best to use CSL instead of water. This is best if you freeze the paste before use.
