These are two of the latest members by the whey.

Called Gertrude and Molly.

Very gentle they are and don't destroy wing mirrors.

Nice write up Ron, I am truly sorry that I couldnt get to the fishin, the first one I missed in three years and this being the most prolific in fish catching terms. The Trent as the best Barbel river in England, Ron. Was that the sound of a method feeder hitting the water maybe. You will have to tell us all more of the DVSG sounds a mighty interesting group of like minded anglers.

The Don Valley Specialist Group is the brainchild of Bob Roberts.

Members are:

Bob Roberts
Matt Brown
Lee Swords
Andy Renton
Tim Ridge
Adam Roberts
Mike Townsend

And me

I am President.

Its a group run on similar lines to the old specimen groups of the 50s and 60s.

We go fishing together, help each other and more than anything, have lots of fun.

Is this an exclusive group?

What credentials would you need to join such a group?

Im not wanting to join i live in leicester but was just curious on how such a group forms??

Next year my fishing pal is emegrating to Australia so ill be looking for a new fishing mate to share info, petrol costs, Baits e.t.c
Its a shame theres nothing like your group in leicester or the surrounding area, It sounds good.
Anyone interested e-mail me or reply to thread, cheers.

Why not form a group yourself Steve.

Most groups like the DVSG are small and exclusive and membership is by invitation only. It's the only way they work.

That does not mean we are a bunch of elitist snobs, far from it. If you email me directly I will try to help you set up such a group. All you need is a bit of enthusiasm.

During the 60s your area had the North Leicester Specimen Group which at the time were composed of some very fine anglers. There is certainly a tradition to follow in your area.

Shame, one passing angler comment that he would't mind a bit of Gertrude's rear end done medium rare with mushrooms, chips and a bottle of Chateauneuf du Pap.

I nearly had him reported to Peta....)
