Testing hooklinks/hooks

you hear of people testing rigs almost to destruction after tying them...is it a good thing? will testing it to almost its breaking strain damage the hook/hooklink - especially when giving it a hard jerk?

dont get me wrong, when playing with new materials/hooks i do test them, but rarely when i'm tying a rig that i'm actually going to use. after all, if you inspect the hook and tie the hooklink carefully, why should it not be as intended?

I suppose you would test a hooklength off of a new spool etc to confirm its from a good batch, but other than checking your knots and the turning ability and the visual inspection of the rig in its entirety I'm with you there Dave.
