Due to completely unexpected circumstances I can offer one Fishing Magic member an oportunity to go on the trip of a lifetime.

A friend and I will be going to Northern India in October - that's this year, not next year - to fish for mahseer, possibly goonch catfish, to trek in the Himalayas, to camp and white water raft between fishing stations.

This is no trip for the infirm or lazy. It will be arduous but the crack will be mighty and the food fantastic.

You will fish where it is likely that no English angler has been before but be warned, these are true northern mahseer, wild, enigmatic fish that run much smaller than their counterparts on the Cauvery.

There will be some degree of roughing it and it is not an escorted trip. We meet our guides and hosts when we reach the Himalyas, which is half the fun, but when we get there you will find our guides are second to none and the ratio is approximately 10 of them to 3 of us.

As I say, there is a place for one angler. The cost, all in, will be approximately ?1,000.

Serious contenders can contact me direct through the email address in my profile and I will furnish more details. But please, no timewasters, I will need to see the colour of your money almost immediately because we have to take advantage of some bargain flights on offer.

And just in case you are wondering, the other angler in the party and myself fished with these guides back in April. The service you get is excellent.

This trip would kill Ron.

If it would do the same for Baz I'd pay the grand!

If I was 20 years younger I would jump at it.

I have been on deveral of these types of safaris in my my and would prefer to live with the memories rather than die in another attempt.

I certainly don't fancy Dheli Belly, Yaws, Trachoma, Dohbi Itch, Malaria, Deng, Sleeping sickness, **** drip, GNR, squitters, bilharzia, colon block, weegies, squods or elephantisis all over again.

Get The Monk to go, he's got plenty of money.

Mind you an article is coming up shortly on FM on the delights of the Zambezi, one of the finest angling rivers in the world.

"This trip would kill Ron."

Sound even more interesting now you mention that, Bob.

"The cost, all in, will be approximately ?1,000."

Small change to Ron that.

And if Baz would go, everyone on FISHINGmagic would have their hands in their pockets.)

Bob.
You could find no better and loyal travelling companion than myself. Himalayas did you say? 'Big foot' country, that would suit me fine.

No Baz, Big Foot is the North American Sasquatch, this is Yeti teritory.

Come to think of it, if you go with them it would be like shipping coals to Newcastle.)

Woody, Sasquatch is the North American Indian word for Big Foot.
My spirit guide told me so.

If you're taking Sherpas why can't they carry Ron, I'm sure he wouldn't mind being tipped out now and again. Or you could always take an elephant and stick him in the howdah, I can just see Ron lording it over the local punkawallahs.

"Boy, pass me my rod theres a good fellow" hhhrrrump!

Ragi is the bait used for Mahseer Baz..
but you keep laying the bait on here and you catch your fair share --so maybe you WOULD do well on the "Passage to India"

Bait? Not up here it ain't. This is mostly lure work though we did have a few on the fly last spring. We also hope to explore live and deadbaits this time.

It would be wonderfull to have someone like Ron along but the rafting is possibly tougher than the trekking.
