Hi there all.
I like the look of the medium range 12ft 2.9 tc Terry Hearn rod.Doe's anyone know what reel,&,line (make)&b/strain,Terry use's with this rod.It sound 's like the ideal tool to deal with the large carp that are coming out regularily on my own club's pool.My present rod`s are totally inadeqate when it come`s to double figure carp Also can you reccommend a strong hook pattern must be maximum size 10&barbless.Only my ?33.00 per mth fishermans friend is up Rather than let it lapse I'm going to get Tony Troth to order me the rod/reel/line etc.I can get ?330 Interest free credit over 12mths.they are one of the few tackle shop's that will you give interest free credit one their discount price most will only do discount for cash .
Hope someone can help

The last time I saw a pic of his gear he had a Daiwa emblem on it.

Why worry about what he uses anyway? Use what you are comfortable with!)..not what someone uses because he is sponsored..so probably cannot choose the reel he would want to anyway!

In his book I think he ws using the SHimano sea spin baitrunners (4500 model I think), but that was a couple of years ago.

Like Rob said I cant really see it matters, just go foe something you like the feel of that holds enough line.... Hooks.. Super Specialists ? not sure if the Nashy hooks go down that small..

Couldn't agree more Rob and Birds, just trying to answer the question.

On the hooks bit, super specialists would be my choice, or ESP raptor G4 in a 10

Oh...and another thing...if u are going down to size ten and smaller....forget the Terry Hearn rods!!! They will pull the hook everytime!! Look for something of 2 pound test curve or less, with an all through action. I regularly use small hooks and use a 1 and 3/4...and have had mid Twenties on a 1 and a 1/2 tc under the rod tip.

Just a thought.

thank`s for your reply`s.
Bearing in mind the advice given I'll take a rain cheque on the rod. With all your knowledge on carp rods. could you reccomend a suitable carp rod or rods that would be suitable for fishing with a size 10 hook , bearing in mind the carp in club pool are very strong fish &scream of at a great pace,&occasionally have to fish pegs with weed beds in swim.I'm at your mercy for advice it`s only recently that iv'e decided to take a greater interest in fishing ,I ve just gone fishing using the same rod &tackle in every

swim if i caught it was more by luck than skill.so ive decided to try &learn a few different methods etc.
This why i thought i`d try a pick Terry's Hearn's brain's because although ive been fishing 15 yrs i now next to nothing about fishing.I'm very good at buying loads of new tackle convincing myself that i,ll catch more fish but never do.

The best brains to pick I've found are those fishing at your local venue. The trick is to pop along to your lake and leave your gear at home. Have a look round the lake and sweep down on someone who looks like they know what they're doing.

Explain your situation, tell him/her your issues and then sit back. If he's like the majority of us out there, his favourite subject will one of hiself and his fishing victory's. There is no substitute at all for local knowledge. (just wish I could sometimes take some of my own advice!)

Good Luck!

I'll stick my neck out!!!! the water is behind a truckstop/garage, j5 of the M5 is just up the road?
13/4TC rod and 10lb synergy, MINIMUM hook size 10, but thats a real size 10, not one of these "new" size 10's that are really a 6!!!!!
Watch out for big Eel.......bet Carp angler knows were!!!

the reason i asked the forum was all the anglers who fish our club pool are match anglers &they all sit there on the method &they sit there all day just waiting for the rod to smack round. And after the match all you here is them moaning that that where fishing this or that breaking strain &got smashed now i don`t know a lot about fishing but even i can tell if a rod or tackle is balanced.
Sure ly there more to angling than just fishing the method .Our's is an old established carp fisherie which as been around long before the Carp puddles became fashionable.I don't match fish so i can pick my own swim &can afford to experiment.
All i want is few tips to be going on with then has i improve i'll come to forum for more advanced tips &ideas on bait/methods idea etc

ps also i know there some very big carp in our pool but ive hooked them on 10 lb line straight through &when ive tried to get the fish coming to me they swim around allday on the end of your rod tip but has soon has you to put some pressure on often results in hook pulling or line breaking .What i want is to set up none match style &try &land some of these big fish but i need the know how/my present rods will take no more than 10 lbs b/s

You're not going to be able to put any more pressure on a size 10 hook.

If you geared up with 2lb TC and 12lb line, any undue pressure would result in a hookpull.

Your club probably have good intentions with the maximum hook size ruling, but I wonder how many fish are swimming around with hooks in them.....

I have great faith in my old North Western 12 foot 1 3/4 carbons. They have a great action and are soft enough to bully a fish without a hook pull. I used to use them with hooks down to size 14 for BIG tench and often piked up double figure carp. They handled them beautifully.

The BEST rod i have EVER used for small hooks is the old Daiwa Amourphous stalker. Its 11.5 feet long, will blast a 2 oz lead into the distance, but I have caught fish up to 22.5 pounds on it, big roach, chub, barbel, bream, tench etc. At ?225 it was a lot 6 years ago...but I picked one up for ?100.

I would say that the new Nash Hooliguns are worth looking at. A pair of them is the same cost as one Hearn rod!! They do a lovely 11 foot 1 3/4.

Anyway..good luck in your choice

Carp Angler, Regard's fish swimming around with hooks in them hope fully none this is the reason we stipulated barbless. When we use to use barbed hooks i frequently caught fish with hook's in their mouth, but since barbless policy iv'e not caught a fish with a hook in it.
Also to all all thanks for inf on rods i'll haave think about which one's to choose
