Ron as been looking for a new chair and he as had to buy 2 a light roaming chair and one that can recline. We now have chairs that convert from barrows for the carp anglers.

The question is what would you want out of a chair and what could be used to achieve these properties.

At present my Nomad fits the bill for river fishing better than any other chair but that doesn't mean it couldn't be improved. It has a small footprint (essential on rivers) and is extremely light but I wouldn't say it was the most comfortable chair I've sat in, it has no reclining facility either but personally I've never needed that.

If it could be lightened even more without forfeiting strength by using titanium and maybe a lighter cloth then all well and good but it would obviously push the price up considerably. All chairs would benefit from enabling attachments like a table and rodrest for instance but these would have to be universal fittings and detachable for the times when they aren't needed, maybe made out of carbon fibre for lightness.

Would it be feasible to use carbon fibre instead of titanium I wonder, is it strong enough and durable enough?

I also have the nomad from when it was the Longe Lizard. I find it very comfortable.

The problem is that carbon fibre can be easily damaged. It only takes a bang and it then can snap in the future. This apllies to rods not sure if it would apply to a chair frame. Titanium seems the way to go for the frame.

The attachment idea is a good one though. Carbon fibre or plastic would be sutable

I have a reclining adjustable chair by a firm called Specialist Angling Supplies,I've had it 11 years and its still going strong! (Does anyone know that these still exist?)

Design:

I would like a chair that reclines, but one which opens and locks to a standard position first, without the need for messing with handwheels etc, so you can open it and sit on it in a standard position and then utilise the recline facility if you so wished!

Also, unlike mine, legs which stay folded or strap in place when the chair is in transit and adjustable legs which don't fall out or buckle like some compliants on here.

On the road to rack & ruin !!!
i`d like a chair thats comfy enough for night sessions (i`m not keen on bed chairs)
.... one thats easy to get up from when in a hurry....perhaps long sturdy legs with good mud feet....the lighter the better as well....one other thing, why on earth do they not come supplied with a bag!!!
is that too much to ask for???

Me too , I have been trying to find one .My thoughts are that a ratchet system ,similar to but upgraded from the old sun lounger principle would answer the need.Chairs seem to be either too low and too high.My favourite in the absence of anything better is the Fox everlevel.Apart from being light and easy to carry it has no metal bar under the backs of my legs which on other chairs causes dead legs when they are reclined back.If the everlevel could have slightly longer legs and a seat that didnt slide it would be even better.

fishface chairmate attachment on your chair is good for all rod angles, stick one on a nomad or extreme lite and your sorted, can't help with the reclining option though ,it wouldnt put that much weight on would it?after all its only two wheels of knurled plastic on the ends

The Korum Accessory Chair with aluminium frame and add an extension to turn it into bed would do for me. A nice Realtree green finish to match my Shimano Tribal would make it just about perfect.

As long as it lasts like my Fox one which I have now had for 16 years and is still going strong I don't care.

if you have angling times from last week its on page 43 in the davies angling advert
its 29.99 . tel 0800136031 or 01784461831/2

its basically a chair leg attachment that comes with a long rod rest that extends ,ideal for roving and tight swims and you just leave the attachment on all the time and carry the rest with your rod,its a bit like the feeder arm from octoplus that fits on seatboxes although this has a universal clamp to fit chair legs,i have made my own from a penrose chair attachment and an old bankstick ,its my fishing buddy that has one and its a lot lighter .

I'm happy with my Nash Lounge Lizard (now sold as the Nomad).

If money were no object I'd like it to be made from aerospace grade alloy with butted tubing.

A water repellant, breathable material would prevent sweat patches in hot weather and dry out quick after wet weather.

A carbon based resin would be lighter than the plastic mud feet.

I'd do away with the ability to store away the carrying strap and have it hang loose at all times.

The male velcro tabs could be an inch longer to make fastening the chair together less of a stretch when it's stuffed with my unhooking mat and bivvy table.

If all my other tackle was as good as my Nash chair I'd be very happy indeed.

Main points for me: At least as light as my "Adjusta Chair"; a carrying strap or at least points to attach one; capable of being set up at a height I can readily get up from - which means seat height about as high as that of a low dining chair; 4 independently and easily adjustable legs; mud feet that don't disappear into the mud; a seat that stays where it is (those who have the adjusta chair will know what I mean!); A back that is either high enough to lean back on or low enough not to catch the battery pack on my headlamp; Price - under ?50!
