Hi all. In the next week or so I will be fishing the River Lea at Dobbs Weir to hopefully catch my first Barbel.
Any advice on baits and tactics would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Never fished Dobbs but at this time of year i would fish small pellets or particles. best time is the first hour of darkness. prebait a couple of swims if possible and rotate between them around 30 mins in each.

Cheers Bryan, thats great.
I was planning on getting there at the crack of dawn, is this any good or is as soon as it gets dark the best.

Cheers mate.

Not as good as evening but still in with a chance. During the day especially if its bright feed the swims but don't fish them till you can see the fish grazing over the feed. If the are taking a mouthful then dropping out of the baited area keep feeding and watching. Also depending on what other species are around try hemp and caster or even maggots ust keep it small.

I've heard that crays are a bit of a problem so I'll have to take that in to account.

Cheers for your help mate can't wait to give it a go and see what makes Barbel so popular.
