Hi folks,

I'm about to go fishing again for first time in over 20 years and am introducing a 15 year old to the sport.

A quick question for someone with a failing memory. Is there a recommended method of putting maggots on the hook and how often should the tackle be reeled in and new bait put on if I've had no bites.

Hope this isn't too daft a question!

Cheers

Floyd.

Location
Ilkeston ,derbyshire ,great britain ,earth ,The un
you leave your maggots out untill the very
point that it can no longer hold its breath
LOL only joking,this isn't something i've
given any thought to .and have always just
done it by instinct.but thinking about It
i'd say depending on conditions and venue
on rivers if the water is warm i'll have
several runs through with the float before
changing hookbaits in warmer waters they do
wiggle longer than colder water in colder
water i change the bait after inspecting it say every 3-4 runs through depending on
signs of life !not that i'm tight but some
times i'll hold the maggots in my hand for
a minet or two too warm it up again or even
blow warmish air onto them too revive them
so i can continue using it,on stillwaters
again depending ot thewater temp i'll leave
it out maybe 10min-20min before temptation
gets the better of me and reel in to check
it's condition.
but once the fish are biting i'll change my
hookbait with every fish caught or if it's
been mangled that is unless i'am gudgeon
grabbing then i'll change it every 10 fish
or so unless it comes off, gudgeon love bait
but love damaged bait even more as its then
scraps/leftovers and they'll compete more
as they're basically scavengers and only 1
step above the minnow on the food chain, but
i do love em,theres been times when they have saved me from a sad lonly existance !
on the canal bank ;-D,now i wonder just how
long maggots can hold their breaths under
water !!!!!!!!!!!!!
