I've read some good books lately; some I have to wait another ten days for, but here are my recommendations:

Crock of Gold - Peter Rolfe - Calm Productions

Chalk Stream Roach - John Searl

Bloodknot - Luke Jennings

Avon Days and Stour Ways - Kevin Grozier

Chevin - CSG

First Cast - Terry Lampard

Our Days with **** - Ian Howcroft

I'd better recommend my joint efforts with Graham Marsden as they have done well:
Pole Fishing - A Complete Guide
Practical Carp Fishing
Practical Barbel Fishing

One or two of the above are nearing sell-out of limited runs. I'd move fast if you haven't already got a copy of the CSG, Grozier, Lampard and Searl books.

What are your recommendations?

my recomendations?

well all of the above - particularly the Searl and CSG book of course. I have recently bought Derrick Amies Pike fishing on the Norfolk Broads - first impression is that it an excellent read. Now I have two weeks off and no marking to do, perhaps I can catch up and read some more!!!

Isn't there another **** Walker book out now as well?

Voltaire - Candide,
Italo Calvino - If on a Winter's Night a Traveller,
Milan Kundera - The Unbearable Lightness of Being,
Salman Rushdie - Midnight's Children,
Indra Sinha - Animal's People,
Konrad Lorenz - King Soloman's Ring,
Chris Yates - How to Fish,

And of course, Peter Andre's seminal classic, My World: In Pictures and Words in which our philosophical hero finally learns to distinguish between the two... :j

I'd recommend it but try to get hold of an original edition (1945-55) rather than modern reprints which are shortened versions. It is an anthology of short excerpts of many famous angling authors though all before 1945.

Didn't think many of ****y's choices were fishing books...

The end of the earth....
I'm getting -

Quest For Barbel by Tony Miles & Trefor West

Modern Barbel Baits & Tactics by John Baker

Other books I'd love to get hold (if I had the money or could simply find them would be) would be -
Barbel Obsession by Steve Stayner
Chub by The Chub Study Group
Chevin - Chub Study Group
My Way With Chub - Tony Miles

Voltaire - Candide,

Dieu ne pas pour le gros battalions, mais pour sequi teront le meilleur.
God is not on the side of the big battalions, but of the best shots.

I love the quotes in Sharpe :)

Thanks for the tip Mark I will try to hunt out an original.

I am pretty certain Voltaire was a Gudgeon fisherman or was that Satre?

I know that the County Library in Durham had 'Chub' by the Chub Study Group and My Way With Chub - Tony Miles, because I asked for them when they were first published, although they might have been sold on at a silly (low) price to make room by now.
I picked up a Bernard Venables 'Freshwater Fishing' from a market stall that had a DCC library stamp on the inside front cover. I think it cost me £2-00 :)
It might be worth asking at your local library's and offer a donation, most councils would probably appreciate a few quid at the moment and many probably wont be aware of the books values.

'Chevin' by the CSG is now being sold on eBay for 3 times the cover price. The Group stock has now gone. River Reads did have some which were being sold at over £50!

Ha ha ha ...brilliant.

Best I've read this year is Blood Knots .A superb book beautifully written.
The Medlar Press reprints of classic books from the past are great stocking fillers too. Trout of the Thames by Hobbs & J W Martins My Fishing Days & Ways are both highly recommended.

I'm afraid "how to do it" fishing books leave me cold.

Blood Knots by Luke Jennings is the best angling book I've read for a long time. It captures the essence of angling beautifully.

Bream tales and tactics is an excellent read by John Bailey.

It gives you a great insight into the history of bream fishing over the last 50 or so years - well 50 years up to about the mid 90's.
