i am still trying to sort out some gear for river trotting,is there any difference between a fly reel and an ordinary centre pin, if there is, what is it and what would you need with a trotting reel?

A fly reel will usually only have one handle and a permanent check, the latter makes it useless for trotting. A trotting reel must be free-running - some don't have even an optional check. It will either have two handles or none. If it's a pin, there should be a grub-screw in the centre boss of the spool, to adjust its "float"; ball-bearing reels don't have this. A decent trotter will be about 4-4.5 inches diameter, much bigger than most fly reels.
Hope this helps!

They work on the same principal but are miles apart. Just like deep wreck multiplier and a small baitcaster. basically the same but diffrent.

If you're completely new to it, a closed face fixed spool reel is a great tool for light trotting. Some of the line control benefits of a 'pin, with the ability to cast further and retrieve quicker. I use both, depending on conditions.
