Does anybody have up to date knowledge of the river Trent around the Rugeley, Staffordshire area? Species, controlling clubs etc. The area that I would look to be fishing - if it's feasible - would be from around Colwich down to King's Bromley. I have never fished the Trent before always having targetted the Severn, I just want to try something different. At this time of the year - season - I would be looking mainly for day ticket waters. The big proviso, though, is that the area be easily accesible as I cannot walk very far - permanent disability with my back. Am I asking too much? If there is anything in this area please let me know.

Cheers

Hi Kevan

for the wosley bridges stretch (the bit by cannock chase) you would have to contact Izaak Walton AA from Stafford (ask at holts tackle on marsden road)+ there are a few free stretches at Stone but i can't remember where (sorry)

As for the rest i'm afraid i couldn't tell you ,but be warned a mate of mine was escorted off a field by a farmer with a shotgun cos his water is out of bounds as he doesn't like anglers (so be careful which bits you try to fish!!)

Hope this helps a bit mate

Trent in Stone is free, meadows above and below the road bridge. Trent at Sandon controlled by Wedgwood AS. bITS OF FREE? DOWN TO ESSEX BRIDGE AT Great Haywood. From there Shugborough and Izaak Walton to Wolsey bridge.
Below Wolsey I fish regularly on the garden centre side , chub to 5 and barbs to 7. beware when the gates close at the garden centre.
Rugeley and Brerton control bits at Armitage and Handsace as well as BAA controlling Yoxall and Kings Bromley.
Loads of river to go at, travel light and be prepared to 'act dumb' if caught-failing that, chuck em in.

WHAT??? Barbel that high up the Trent? I honestly did not expect that. I was thinking of chub and possibly dace being the main species. Now that has heartened me, I have a few gallon of seeds fermenting nicely. It looks like they will be used in the very near future. I'll do it all by the book though and get tickets for the waters I fish. My days of chucking anybody in have long gone......in fact I don't think they were ever there :)))))

Cheers for the information.

Right that is it. Trent here I come. I know the Trent has held barbel for longer than the Severn but I always thought they were far from me. I have to say here and now though if I manage anything decent I will not be shouting about it. I'm thinking of the Kickles Farm debacle.

I'd love to see Dave sit at a table with my brother then and see who finished the Desperate Dan pie first. My brother - greedy sod - finished off the ones others in his party couldn't. Myself, I couldn't even look at one let alone try to eat it. :)))

Kevan - get into Stone, the town stretch just downstream from the canoe slalom, reports of barbel to around 6 - 7 Lb, loads of dace, roach and a few nice chub and it's FREE.

STEADY on Paul, I have fished it regularly as its only 50 yards from my garden and 4lb is my best by far.........average is around just under 2lb i would guess...

Dave. So does that mean I'm ok for a cup of tea and bacon buttie? ;-))))) On second thoughts, my son will be with me and he'd never stop eating......mind you, I'd never stop drinking tea :)

But seriously, I may take a drive up in the week and scout around. I'll probably drive back and follow the river as far as I can to Rugeley then back towards Cannock - I live in Cheslyn Hay.

Dave. I was going last week but I came down with flu. It looks like this Monday or Tuesday is hopeful.

Whereabouts does your cousin live then? Is it in Littlewood Lane? I bet he's none too happy about the new road, it's only yards from where he lives in that area.

Yes Littlewood lane.

Trent is very low at the moment-as low as its been all year. Dove was too yesterday and crystal clear like gin.
