I've often wondered about this.

I don't use split cane rods quite simply because modern stuff is better. I do read lots of carp fishing articles and as regards fly fishing, I am way ahead of many and can cast much further than anglers half my age.

I must be different. I am letting all the old codgers down.

Mind you, I do like to dress decently on the bank. People who wear hooded tops and baseball caps should be shot.....)

Your tackle is more up to date than most of us young whippersnappers because you have most probably got more disposable income at your time of life than us young whippersnappers. Same rule applies to nice sportscars, only people with thining or grey hair can afford pulling magnets, they are the only people you see driving them. Bring on retirement !!

He He He!!

Problem with a lot of the whippersnappers is that they get shacked up with some bird who denudes them of all their money and spare time too.

Next minute they are whinging like stuck pigs because they have no money and no fishing time.

Take my advice, keep well clear of birds that want to get "serious".

I would rather be seen dead than in a baseball cap Graham.

And anyway, we are not baseball players, we are anglers!!!

When I first started to fish (5) when me dad took me, everybody wore a hat!! Even the local police wore hats (hard ones).

What happened?

I agree Murray. In those days we had proper fishing hats. Have a look back at Mr. Crabtree or **** Walker.

These days, most anglers go around looking like muggers or criminals with these silly baseball caps.

And they don't even play baseball!!

And what the heck has happened to the traditional English cap, the sort my grandad used to wear. In the old days you could buy a classy English style cap from shops like Dunns - made from real Huddersfield or Scottish woollen cloth. The bloody problem with the lot of you is that you would rather send all your money to the Chinks than buy proper English clothes!

)

I allways remember my grandfathers cap.
It had a press stud on the peak which allowed for the peak to be pulled down. I have no idea what the point of it was, does anybody remember?
The next style I remember comeing in that looked anything like it was the cheese cutter in red, or blue and black stripes.
