Toying with the idea of buying a pole would it be worth even getting one if i only had £100 to spend max?

Yes, but not a long one.
Try a modestly priced margin pole of upto 8 mtrs, plenty around. It will give you the flavour of it and if you like it and find more money for a longer and better one, the margin pole will still have a use.

Check out some of the Middy's margin poles/whips, less than a £100. Guys at local tackle shop absolutely rated these and not because they were selling them.
