I am going to start carp fishing this year, and i will be tying my own hair rigs.
now there seems to be a alot of hooks aimed specifically for the carp market in lots of different patterns that are more expensive than the usual 10 hooks for 90p.
I was going to use drennan super specialist hooks has anyone got any views on using these hooks as i have always found them a very good hook for other types of fishing.

Drennan Super Specci's are spot on Nicholas, they have never let me down for carp, barbel or chub.

Another brand worth looking at are Kamasan Animal, these are worth a look as well in the same price range!

Thats interesting, not that I don't think they are good hooks but if these are so good why would people pay more money for other types of hooks such as ESP etc, do you think people are sucked in and pay more because they are lead to believe that they are better and will catch more fish.

i have also used kamasan hooks and found them very good as well

it's just that i've never used either for bolt rigging with hair rigs, and there seems to be so much choice and different rigs that sometimes it seems like rocket science when surely if youv've got some good strong hooks that are sharp they will work

I'd recommend Korda hooks of all types. Not only do they have unrivalled strength and reliability but they are teflon coated. This is a matt grey colour reducing visibility of the hook in clear conditions. It can really make a difference. Well worth considering - TRUST ME!!!

I was talking to a carp lad at one of my local lakes and he showed me three Korda long shank x hooks, one of them was partially straightened out and the other two were snapped clean in half on the bend. Its ceratiny ruined my confidence in them, back to E.S.P. (Drennan) for me.
