I have recently aquired several pounds of scrap lead left over from roofers.

There may come a point in the next couple of months that i will need to use this lead in order to hold bottom on the Thames. Is it safe to stick it straight on to my feeders? Or is there something i need to do to it first?

Lash it straight on if need be, but you may have to widen a few holes on your feeders.

I usually cut mine into thin strips. Be careful not to take too much spare lead with you when you go, or else you'll end up with arms like Garth.

Lol John, they won't miss it, i replaced it with some gaffer tape.

Isn't lead poisonous to the water or something like that? Or was that another crazy episode during my sleep?

I wondered where you have been Jonny, not scared of heights then...

I thought lead was banned years ago?
Because of Swans!

Strip lead is fine for latching on to feeders isnt it?

Thats what most feeders come supplied with!

Heights DB?

Thank you for your email by the way, finally got to it after the many hundreds of other crap sent through by the spammers!
Happy New Year to you, and indeed all the other folk on ere!

Bloody swans eating all the lead! I imagine then, if it were attached to your feeder and cast out to where the swans could not get at it, then it would be fine? Does it not harm the water at all?

Wasn't it because swans kept eating lead shot that it got banned?

I swear, the swans on one particular part of the Thames are so annoying, i sometimes ponder force feeding them lead...........via my shotgun!

I just cut mine with a pair of tin snips, and leave about a half inch overlap at either end.

I still have some lead piping connected to the water mains, if it's good enough for me, it's good enough for the fish.

(It hasn't done me any harm has it)?
