Hello

In a danish forum there is quite a debate about the hooks you see here. Nobody really seems to know what type of fishing they were intended. They are of some age. People have guessed everything from Salmon Fly Hooks to Conger hooks. Any suggestions here?

Look very similar to the type commercial fishermen use on longlines.

They look like commercial conger hooks. The use of the 'upset' ringed short attachment is in effect a swivel and is to stop fish [eels] twisting off the hook. Similar hooks were available from Mustad during the 60/70's although were much longer [3"].

Thanks for the replies.

Conger hooks would make sense. The only thing is, that the original author claims to have seen similar hooks in very small sizes?! He has contacted Mustad, and they do recognize the type of hook (they have never made a black version, and think this is an even older model from Partridge), but says nothing about the use.
