we would be ostracised, unemployed, single and universally loathed by most other members of society (unless you live in Yorkshire).For example,you are asked by your boss how things are going at work.You would have to reply"I hate it, I am here only for the money and I will try anything to get away early or not come in at all if the river is fishing well,the Cricket is on TV or I had a skinfull last night and really can't be bothered"
Your wife asks " how do I look" you must reply "not a patch on how you once did, if it wasn't for a wonderful bread pudding I would be off like a shot".Etc etc.
