I've just picked up a spod rod for use when Tench, Roach or Bream fishing this spring/summer.

I've bought myself some 46lb Quiksilver for use as a shockleader but I'm not too sure on which mainline would be best. I was going to use 20lb Powerpro braid.

I've been given different advice by different people.

What would all you spodding experts recommend? Does it really matter that much?

I've stopped using Braid Matt because I can't get on with finger protectors and without them you can make a right old mess of your fingers.

If you are going to go to the trouble of using a shockleader and a mainline of around 8-10lb's I don't think it matters too much. Any reliable 8-10lb mono will do a very good job. My personal preference is for Daiwa Sensor mainline with a tapered fox leader.

Tim, if he's using a braid shockleader, then he'll have to use a finger protector anyway no matter what mainline he uses.

Matt, I use 30lb PP, tougher then 20 when it hits in the clip, mind you I never had 20 snap at the clip, but just for safety sake.

Same as marker rod, braid is better than mono as it absorbs the twist.

Same as other thread, How? it's still attatched either end. Please explain!

being a woven construction, it absorbs the twists better, unlike mono which is solid

Ah! so, will it eventually twist up then? just take a lot longer than mono?
