Thai Supermarket Baits?

Went down my local and picked up a very cheap pack of Indian Mackerel for experimental pike bait.

Anyone else tried it? Any luck? Looks similar to regular mackerel but not stripey...

They sell a sauce call nam plas, which is basically fish sauce. I know people who've tried that as a flavour and caught.

I had a go experimenting with nam pla a while back after reading Andy Doughty's article on FM.

It has to be said tho it took a bit of explaining when I got caught by the Mrs. sticking a pipette up a sardines bum! She's used to most of my bait concoctions being a bit mingey but the look on her face that day was priceless! ;-)
