is there any point in using hair rigs for any species other than carp, i was looking around for any ideas to use with silverfish but all seem to just be for carp specialists which i'm not really into, i'm aiming to catch larger roach, rudd, perch with a 12 ft method feeder rod and or my 13ft waggler rod but apart from the dink dink rig i can't seem to find anything. Besides tying rigs and hooklinks gives me something to do when i'm at home and can't get on the bank.

Depends on your bait more than species.

I use the hair rig for tench, roach, bream and rudd as well as carp. I use hard pellets all the time and don't know of any other way of presenting them.

By using micro bands I can present 4mm pellets successfully but normally find a 6mm pellet a good size to select the better sized fish when a lot of small stuff is present.

The preston quick stops are a good way of presenting meat.

...and a leger stop on a short hair is a good foundation for paste - especially cheese-paste, which tends to harden in cold water and mask the hook-point if it's just moulded onto the hook. Even Dame Juliana had a dodge for tying cheese onto the hook...
