One of the most important insects to imitate is the nymphal stage of the Greater Dark Alder Fly.

Trout love these nymphs but they only appear for a short period of time about mid May. These flys should be fished with a floating line on a long leader.

Here is the dressing:

Hook: 12, 2 x long shank Kamasan

Silk: Primrose

Tail: About three fibres from the top of the ears of a central British Columbian Saskwatch.

Body: A Mixture of Tamanian Devil belly fur mixed with the fine fibres scraped from the scrotum of an adult male Yeti.

Rib: Fine platinum wire

Thorax: Dodo herl

Wing: Ivory billed woodpecker matched primary feather fibres with biots from the New Zealand Moa.

Believe me, this thing works.

At last, a pattern that uses Dodo Herl!!!

I've got a shed load of the stuff and couldn't find anything to use it on.

Thanks Ron!!!!!!!

A little trick: 4.8 mm down the shank you should bend the hook just about 1.37 degree to get the right body shape. Otherwise it will never fool any fish - cheeky little buggers!!
