Folks, this isnt one of the c3's so was wondering what your thoughts were? It's brand new, but the red 5000 model, not one of the fancy ones.

Will it do the job for lure fishing on rivers and canals...just single figure pike, not targetting any monsters.

Oh and chub/perch.

Thanks guys.

Yes, it's a fine reel and should easily cope with your requirements. And being an ABU, you can always get spares and upgrade the bearings if you wish.
If you want better, you'll have to pay much more.

In my opinion you would be better suited with a fixed spool reel for Light weight work and canal fishing.

I echo the last post (echo? Last post? have I happened upon an old war movie?)

The 5000/5001 has got a heavy spool, and lures under about 20g aren't too easy to cast with it. Great for plugging and heavier spoons, though.

There are tons of much smaller multipliers which work well with smaller lures, and cost about ?35 or so.

Load with a SOFT braided line like Whiplash and the direct connection you get with a multiplier will let you feel every tiny movement and every knock. It's worth learning to use one.
