and anyone tell me of a brand of wire that is good for makeing spinning traces and quite cheap.

ET 49-strand - ?2.49 from Short Ferry Anging. 30lb BS, fairly durable.

Or try QED from Harris angling - ?5 for 10m, thick as barge rope but it outlasts everything else.
