I've just been on ebay and want to sell 3 fly rods I have (but don't know if you're supposed to do that on here...?):-

1. Greys Greyflex 10' #8/9 (2 piece) in perfect condition.
2. Leeda dragonfly (hand built) 10' 6" #6/7 (2 piece) in very good condition.
3. Diawa Lochmor-Z 10' #8 (2 piece) Good condition but the cork is missing off the butt piece.

I'm selling them as my husband - Jock Hodge (inventor of that big, scary lure - The Humungus), died in 2003 a few days before the team he captained (Lochleven Flycasters) took part in yet another Scottish final!

I've no idea how much I should ask for them - does anyone???

Help!!!

The Greyflex probably won't go for much more than ?80.

The Lochmor might go a bit more as they are a slightly more sought after rod, however the missing cork handle will reduce the price, so possibly ?60.

I have no idea as to the Leeda rod, but I'd guess not much more than ?40.

I find it best to start them at ?1 and let others decide. The main reason being that the higher you start the auction price, the more Ebay take as a listing fee.

Good luck if you do Ebay them.

I wouldn't mind the Lochmor myself. British made Daiwa blanks are excellent.

The handle would be easy to fix.

Hi J

Replied to this on another thread, but thought it worthwhile to repeat it on this one:

Those rods are pretty specialised tools and putting a value on them is difficult. With the exception of the Leeda rod they are a bit on the heavy side for general trout fishing. The Greyflex isn't in the current catalogue, but the current range retails at about ?160 so you'd be looking at between ?80 and ?100 second hand. The Leeda I would guess at about ?40 and the Lochmore will be difficult to sell without the handle corks, but it is a quality rod and worth repairing so I would go for about ?30.

Ebay will be very hit and miss on rods like these. The best bet might be a small ad on the notice board on the lodge at Loch Leven (assuming they have a notice board) or contacting the Loch Leven Flycasters as they probably have a newsletter in which you can advertise.

Hope that helps.

Split the difference on the Lochmore and it looks like we've got a concensus!

Hi guys

Thanks for the feedback, as I genuinely had no idea how much I should ask for them.

As you say Sean, 2 of them are a bit more heavy duty (for Loch Leven mostly where the fish had a strong tendency to fall asleep in 12 to 20 foot depths or, as our friend used to say "If there are any fish in here, then they're all nailed to the f****ng bottom!") and not so versatile as lighter rods, so I might try the ad posted up at the Loch.

Thanks again,

June
