I was taken to Atcham last year Barbel fishing on the LDW stretch (I think) My mate lent me a Barbel rod showed me how to set up and supplied me with Halibut Pellets. Since that day My Carp tackle is developing Cobwebs and I've spent ?200 on Barbel tackle.
I was warned not to expect bites until the dark started to fall, but straight away witnessed a screaming take that had me mesmorised. My First ever Barbel was 6lb 8oz and still even after another trip to Atcham remains my PB. I also caught one smaller so didn't weigh it. But Ione thing that I will say is whatever the weather I think I'd rather go Barbelling and leave the Carp for others!
Another thing that I've also noticed is how other fishermen on the river will willingly stop and have a chat, probably to divulge information or to gain it, but I've not had many stop for a chat on stillwaters. Are river fishermen a different breed?
