I have used those modern retractable walking poles as wading sticks when fly fishing in rivers. They're way cheaper than buying purpose-made wading sticks, but in Aldi this week they are selling these poles for ?4.99 each, which is half the price of the cheapest ones that you can get in an anorak city like Ambleside in the Lake District. Got a couple of peaked caps at ?1.49 each, some walking gaiters at ?2.99 a pair. Walking boots are ?17 or so. Well worth a look before the stuff runs out.

The last time Aldi did a similar thing the gear got decent reviews on outdoor sites.....not top notch, but servicable stuff.
