Bit of a mercy mission folks, need some help from our river Severn Barbel anglers.

bit of background, couple of years ago my Dad was taken ill, he pulled through but we nearly lost him.
He's currently back in hospital with the same thing....hopefully though it's not as bad as last time.

the two fish he's never caught are Barbel and Carp, now I'm not in the slightest worried about carp because I can take him to a puddle to catch one of them no problem. But I'm struggling for Barbel, I've caught a few but I'm an occasional Barbel fisherman and I wouldn't trust my knowledge to bank on catching

can someone put me onto a bit of water where I can get him a Barbel? sessions will have to be short 6 maybe 8 hours and if I'm honest I'm not sure how many sessions we'll have. plus he can't walk very far and it'll need to be somewhere that I can get a day ticket for though I'm not worried about the cost or for that matter the size, if I can put one little Barbel on the bank for him I'll have done what I set out to do.

PM me if you like. need as much info as possible. I know that one or two folks will offer to take us, but I'm sure you'll understand it's something that we need to do together. It may all come to nothing (waiting for some more info from the hospital), and I may be (hopefully over reacting)....

If he finds out about this he'll kill me!

TIA

Dave - if you'll allow me I'll post a link up to this request onto Barbel Fishing World (BFW) for you ...
I would help but I live in London...

Regards

Matt

Matthew, I'd be grateful thank you. It's not something I'd usually do I like to find the fish myself but needs must, he got me started fishing when I was 5 would like to repay the favour.

Thanks Eddie.

If it helps I'm in Walsall so ideally somewhere between Shrewsbury/Worcester, but I have no objections to travelling a little further.

thanks to all.

guys,

I'm overwhelmed by the many gestures and offers that I've had this afternoon. I expected one or two tips on locations and pointers in the right direction. but the offers have by far outstripped this. All I really wanted/expected was any size of Barbel for the old man. I know how made up he'll be when/if he catches his first, and he dosen't really show his feelings.

I would love to take up some of the offers, but at this time I'm not sure of how the situation will pan out there's a lot that can happen in five and a bit weeks.

I'd just like to say a heart felt thanks to all, for every kind word and the wonderful offers.

thank you

Dave Smith

Hi Dave,
Looks like you have plenty of offers, but I would be glad to help if needed,as I have stretches on Teme and Severn with vechicle access to pegs, full of Barbel.
email me anytime.
Pons.

I love this thread...it just shows that out there , there are people who care enough about others to put aside their own aspirations and help out. If you were in Yorkshire Dave, I would gladly help.(although waters up here are a bit unpredictable, early season )

Excellent stuff. I love reading things like this, as it shows for all the daft internal rows, your average bloke on the bank would bend over backwards to help sort someone else.

I read the original post and sent an email. I then read the rest of the posts. I hope things pan out for you Dave and you get your wish.

Just a quick note, to say thanks.

My Dad came out of hospital yesterday, so far so good. looks like he'll be able to get out in the new season fingers crossed.

I've got so many offers of fishing and people giving info on their hard earned hotspots its truley unbelivable. I've noted a few mid-severn areas and will be getting out to have a look before the season begins to make a judgement on whether the access will be suitable, hopefully he'll get his first Barbel within the first few weeks of the season.

I've had some wonderful e-mails of support, it's reassuring to know that there are others who have been there done that so to speak. I'll try and return everyone's e-mail over the next day or so things have been a little all over the place over the last few days.

just to echo David and Chris'e points, you're absolutley right us "specialists" can be a secretive bunch at the best of times but I've got invitations to fish some awesome streches of river and to be spoon feed the best swims etc. will the infighting stop between us? Nah cause it won't, and neither will we ever get rid of our idiots. but we still need to remember that there are some top people in this wonderful sport of ours which are more than willing to put themselves out to help others they've never met.

Thank you all

Dave
