Am doing some river carping locally this summer. Fish have come out up to 30lb. Am wondering should I use braid eg like PowerPro 20-30lb for example or say 15lb mono? Reels Shimano 8010's and rods Shimano 2.25 tc. Will be fishing mostly close range within a few yards from sunken trees or other bad snags.

Braid, power pro in 35. With something like 50lb Arma-kord from Korda as a good quality snag leader if your within yards of sunken trees and bad snags. Fish with the rods at your side.

Excellent advice and thanks to Benny for pointer to the other stuff eg the snag leaders option. On the one venue (bristol Avon) I plan to fish boats are a problem here so backleads etc will probably have to be used. Is it worth getting that book on River Carping by Neil Wayte? Only ?4 from Amazon!
