I'm glad you put this on Jeff because I was toying with the idea of buying some but as I only use them on a waggler or light feeder they would have finished up being fed to the fishes like most others I've tried.

Its a problem getting pellets that are soft enough for the fish to take readily but able to withstand a hefty cast as well. I have had a fair amount of success with a banded hard pellet but I think a hooked pellet gives you better results. One day..........

I bought some recently Graham, only used them for a short while on the waggler, casting was ok, but hoards of tiny rudd finished me off!!!
Other makes I've bought, to try out, ended up mixed in with the ground bait, these are a little better.

I use them on the hook size 16 or 14 wide gape and the ones i pump myself use as feed although if you wet those micro sinking pellets and make small balls for feed they are excellent

The Champions you mention, Ian, are as I would describe the Swimstim "Our soft hookers are perfect for anglers using the pole whilst staying on the hook for gentle casting." Note - GENTLE.

The advantage of Swimstim is they are done in 4, 6, and 10 mm sizes and two flavours and - they are at you local tackle shop so you can see what you are getting.

I'm always on the lookout for a strong hookable pellet and the best I've found so far are the dry skinned type that were made by Mistral. I'll try to find out if they still do them.

Many is the time I've just sat down, no loose feed, just Mistral hook pellets and caught 40 or 50 fish in a couple of hours. They float, that's the down side. Swimstims sink!

Has anyone tried BAM (Bad Ass Madras) pellets by SB -Specialist baits? They are expanded soft hooker pellets in 4mm and 6mm size and come in a ?2.99 tub. They are brilliant-all sorts of fish love them including carp, tench, bream and crucians. The 4mm are great with a 18/20 hook, the 6mm fit a size 14 perfectly. Even I can catch on them!

Peter,

I use several flavours from the SB range. Scopex is my favourite as your fingers don't stink quite as bad as with the BAM ones. I only bother with the 6mm ones, catching chub, roach, rudd, dace, gudgeon as well as the species you mention. They cast better than any others I've tried. Never mind gentle casting, I cast these as hard as I can with light sticks on the river!

Graham,
had word back, Mistral still do the Soft Hookable pellets. Apparently Mr. Marsden has some for reviewing.

I use the same Xpanders as Mark. I stop using them if there are lots of small fish nicking them or it would work out expensive. Its surprising how long a ?3 tub last when you use them just to pick off the odd big fish. I've lost count how many good fish I've had on this tub.

Jeff, I've been using champion baits for a while now, and I often use them on a bomb or waggler outfit. They have an exceptionally "rubbery" texture, I've never had one float and they stay on the hook better than ANY others I have tried.

When you pump your pellets just cover the pellets with just enough water. After pumping just pour the lot out into a container cover and leave overnight and they will be ok.You must have been using too much water if they are too soft, always hook against the grain

Did not like the betain green that I tried. Never had a bite and the pellets crumbled when putting on the hook.
May have been passsed sell by date.
My bmate used soem yesterday, he caught quite a few fish but I noticed that some were floating when he loosed fed them.
I'll stick to pumping my own.

Had a play with some of the Skinz yesterday.

You can put a hook through a soaked pellet very easily, but it is difficult to pull it out so looks like they will stay on the hook fine. We re-hooked a bait several times and it didn't seem to affect it too much.

Couldn't get the pellet to form a paste, but don't really know why you'd want to do that.

They smell a bit like the oil that Meaty Fish bites are soaked in.

They look a bit pale coloured to me, but they can be dyed and from the look of the illustration on the packet some darker coloured ones are on the way
