winter match fishing

Howdy fisherfolk, you could write all i know about matchfishing on the back of a size 22 hook, so how is it that i watched a match at my local river and everyone was fishing breadflake with liquised bread in a cage feeder. Nothing wrong with that you might say but then i read that in winter fish wont, or are reluctant to feed over light groundbait.There were a few fish caught but not many - however it was bloody freezing. Something to think about anyway.

I`ve heard this happening in clear water during the summer Rod. Don`t know about during winter though. Was the water coloured? Don`t forget, the water temps are still relatively high for the time of year, at least down south.
