Shimano Biocraft XTR Fly Rod

Has anyone had a try with the Shimano Biocraft XTR fly rods? I've just won one on Ebay (?88 with a Greys GRX reel and two lines) - its the 8wt saltwater version.

Does anyone know if it wil also handle a 9wt line?

I had a Shimano, and I thought it powerful for its line rating, so it will probably be fine. Actually, one rating either way doesn't make a lot of difference to most rods, assuming the rating was OK to start with!

I have had so-called 6s that can barely handle 25 yards of 5wt, and 7s that could handle hefty shotting heads.

Only way to find out is to try it. Just a small tip; if you are struggling to get enough line to shoot, try going up a line size. No point struggling to aerialise 20 yards of line just to load the rod enough.
