Don't know for sure mate, but approximatly at least one and a half times as long as your hooklength (To prevent tangles).

If I am fishing with braid mainline I make it a goodly length, 18" to a couple of feet so as to be sure that the line doesn't cut into the fish's flanks or damage scales while being fought.

In passing, does anyone make a weighted / heavy silicon tubing that would help to lock the line leading to the lead firmly on the deck ? Somebody must do surely ? If not then I claim my 2% commission from anyone who picks up on the idea.... :)

Sorry you've been beaten to it, look in the shops for "sink tube".

Thanks guys for the help.

Christian i'm just learning but i tighten up to the lead / method feeder then attach a back lead and let it slide down the line, then i mount the rod in the rests then give line untill it feels like the back lead is on the bottom.
