Tie a small loop in the end of your hooklength. this acts as your hair. pull the other end of the hooklength through the eye of the hook, until the hair is positioned just off the bend of the hook. Then tie the knotless knot.

I have only just noticed Riks two turns of line in front of the hair. Brilliant.

It makes the hair stand upright. Fly tyers also do this to make the wings of dry flys stand upright. Read Riks write up.

I like the two extra turns, however the most important point seems to have been missed.

I realize that Rik has, as stated, used larger than life hooks etc for illustration purposes, but even so the ratio of length of hair rig to hook size strikes me as all wrong.

Given that this was a size 8 or 10 by the time a boilie was threaded onto the hair and stopped it would be too far of the business end of the hook.

The carp would not allways come in contact with the hook point.

The tying method can not be faulted but the dimensions can.

Most folk recommend a bait fairly tight to the back of the hook.
