For the older gents who use to fish with their dads. How do you reckon the new super supple lines and braids compare with the OLD SILK lines that use to be used and then dried on the silk line driers. Do you reackon size for size the new ones are as strong? Looking at the diameters of some of the braids i personally doubt if they are as strong as silk in its natural state.Suppleness not so sure probably the same. Knots, Haven't got a clue but people use to use it.Has anybody ever used silk for hooklengths? got to be so suppple surely and natural looking. And strong. Just crossed my mind thats all.

I am old enough to have used silkworm gut casts. They were not bad at all.

When I first started fly fishing you could get tapered gut leaders but you had to soak them. They were also expensive when compared to nylon.

And of course - "Kingfisher" tapered silk fly lines. You really had to look after them.
